Why does my iPhone save photos as HEIC?
HEIC files are about half the size of JPGs at the same quality, so Apple made it the default in iOS 11. To shoot JPG instead, open Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and pick Most Compatible.
Will converting to JPG lower the quality?
At quality 90 the difference is almost impossible to see. Pick 100 for the largest, sharpest files, or 70 to 80 when you need smaller ones.
