How is reading time calculated?
Reading time uses an average of 238 words per minute for silent reading. Speaking time uses 183 words per minute, closer to a spoken presentation.
Does it count words correctly in other languages?
Yes. It uses your browser's Unicode word segmenter, which handles Chinese, Japanese and Thai text correctly even though those languages do not separate words with spaces.
What counts as a sentence or a paragraph?
A sentence ends at a period, question mark or exclamation point. A paragraph is any block of text separated from the next by a blank line.
What are the top keywords based on?
It ranks the words you repeat most often, ignoring common words like the, and and is, and shows how many times each one appears as a percentage of all words.
Is there a word limit for essays or articles?
There is no fixed limit here. Common targets are 250 to 300 words for a college application essay and 1,500 to 2,500 words for a blog post aimed at search traffic.
