What does lorem ipsum actually mean?
It comes from a scrambled passage of a Latin text by Cicero from around 45 BC. The words are not meaningful Latin anymore, which is exactly why designers like it: it will not distract from the layout.
Why use lorem ipsum instead of real text?
Placeholder text has a natural mix of short and long words, so it fills a layout the way real content will, without anyone reading it and getting distracted by the meaning.
Can I get lorem ipsum as HTML?
Yes. Turn on the HTML tags option and paragraphs are wrapped in paragraph tags, and list items are wrapped in an unordered list, ready to paste into a template.
Why does my text always start the same way?
The classic opening line, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit," is on by default because it is the version most people recognize. Turn it off for fully randomized text instead.
