Why does my result show 60 Hz when I bought a 144 Hz monitor?
Check that your operating system's display settings actually apply 144 Hz, since some connections and cables default back to 60 Hz. A browser can never measure higher than the rate the operating system is actually driving.
Can a browser really measure this accurately?
It measures the time between paint callbacks, which tracks your display's actual refresh rate closely, though small jitter is normal because the browser and operating system share the same CPU with other tasks.
Why did the test pause?
Browsers throttle or fully pause animation frames in tabs that are not visible, to save battery and CPU. Switch back to this tab to keep measuring.
What does jitter mean here?
Jitter is the gap between the fastest and slowest frame during the test. A small, steady gap is normal; a large one can point to background load or a display running below its rated rate.
